about

A long overdue re-issue of the two excellent albums that The Blanche Hudson Weekend recorded during their brief lifespan.
"You Always Loved Violence" was originally issued by Squirrel Records in October 2011, and "How Many Times Have You Let Me Die ?" followed in April 2013 on Odd Box Records.

The Blanche Hudson Weekend started out as fuzz-pop aficionados with a clutch of collectable 7" plastic platters plus a keen ear for a 1960s girl group melody, and developed into a full-throttle sonic six-piece, combining noisy guitars with deep-fried electronica, by the time they were ready to record their 2nd album.

And then, just after the release of that 2nd album....they were gone. Never to return. They had made their point. Mission accomplished.

Several years later, in the dark days of the hellscape we've come to know as 2020, Next Phase : Normal Records issued an excellent compilation CD of most of the band's very best tracks. Entitled "Standing On The Lift To The Scaffold", it incidentally makes for a fantastic companion piece to this double-disc of delights that you're currently reading about.

So - here, available once again, are the 2 full-length albums by The Blanche Hudson Weekend. The slightly stripped back sounding debut, "You Always Loved Violence", which neatly combines this combo's love of pop with their more experimental leanings, taking time for a tip of the sunglasses to the likes of The Velvet Underground, The Jesus And Mary Chain and yes, there is a definite dollop of C-86 stylings on display here, too.
The follow-up, "How Many Times Have You Let Me Die ?" is a much more confident sounding beast. A one hour, 15-track juggernaut of bubbling synths, fuzzy guitars and catchy tunes. We'd go as far to say that it's an unrecognised indie-rock classic....but we don't want to brag.

Both discs contain several bonus tracks and curios from the grab-bag of sonic leftovers - including rough n' raw sounding demos and rare recordings that deserve to be resurrected and to take their rightful place on this bumper collection of synapse scorching pop gems.
